A bit about me Hi, I’m Numi. I’m a full-time software developer in the southeastern US, and I decided to join PirateSoftware’s GameJam 15 at the last possible moment. I happened to catch a bit of Thor’s birthday stream during my lunch break at work, saw the theme vote, and happened to have a loose idea forming in my brain. I’ve watched Thor’s shorts and bits of streams for several months now, so I was already curious about starting into game dev, but hadn’t particularly made any effort to work towards that end as of yet.

Author’s Note: This list of advice was written back in 2021 as a challenge to myself, as well as a way to uplift and encourage some of my friends who were currently going through some hard times in life. Some of these pieces of advice are adapted from famous quotes, some are my own twist on common proverbs, but most are my own observations. I like to reflect on these statements and use them as a sort of grounding point when considering my life and the direction it’s going in.

TANKS D.Va - You don’t know how to dodge bullets, so being able to say “no” to getting shot is the best you can do.
Doomfist - You really, really want to knock people off an edge. You’re also the worst. See: Lucio.
Junker Queen - You’re an anarchist.
Orisa - You got locked out of playing DPS.
Ramattra - You die too fast when you try to play Bastion, so this is the next best thing.

Storytelling in Motion - What is Roleplaying

AUTHOR’S NOTE: As with all blogs, everything I write here is my opinion. I try to back it up with sound reasoning, but if you’re looking for a post that uses quotes from rulebooks or cites psychological papers to back things up, this isn’t the article series for you.
Additionally, while I do actively play DND 5e and FATE, I primarily come from a heavy MCRP (Minecraft RolePlay) background with a bit of forum/Discord/text RP mixed in, so much of this advice relates to RP environments that border closer to LARPing than to traditional TTRPGs.

Golang, if you haven’t yet heard of it, is a programming language created by Google. Upon first investigating the language, I thought “huh, what a nice shake-up from the usual”. And it was, in many ways! Golang writes very much like a scripted or interpreted language (i.e. Python), but it compiles like a…well, a compiled language, and the syntax has more in common with C# (my daily driver at work) or Java than with Python in many ways.
